"When we decided to teardown our old 1960’s house in Mystic Island, we went looking at homes in the area that were currently under construction. We happened upon a Miller Homes’ house and met Jim for the first time. I was impressed with the quality construction and the ease with which I could communicate with Jim. At that time it was just a casual meeting, and we went our separate ways. My wife and I decided on a modular type of construction and attempted to make a connection with three other modular home builders. The interest and straightforward approach of Miller Homes was a breath of fresh air. We showed him a floor plan we liked from the internet, and Jim took it from there. I particularly liked his ability to communicate with the local building officials in order to keep the building process moving. Having a local builder is key, particularly after completion when you need the builder nearby to fix those little nits that happen in every new house. Jim has always been there for us. "I met Jim Miller the summer of 2005. He was supervising a crew that was placing a modular house on my neighbor’s lot. Now, of course I was concerned when I learned that my neighbor was going to knock down his beach house and place a large house on the same property. How was this going to affect me and my property? My worries were relieved very quickly as I watched the demolition, clean up, readiness for the new house and the placement of the six modular boxes.

During this whole process, my wife and I were toying with the idea of doing the same thing with our beach house. It took a year to decide, and the summer of 2006 we interviewed three different companies. We met Jim at a diner on a Sunday morning and he listened as we put out different ideas we wanted for our house. He came back with a price which was comparable with the other two companies, except he included everything. A real turnkey operation. I liked the way Jim conducted business from the very first meeting. We took the plunge and signed the contract. Of course, we were worried. We met with Jim many more times that summer and worked out all the details, including payments. Jim was never about money, he was about doing the job.

We told him we’d like to use the original house until the end of September, and would like to be in the new house by May 1, the next year. We signed the contract, gave him the first payment and waited. Jim never asked me to run to the building department, and never said, ‘Mike, we have a problem.’ Everything was handled professionally. Two weeks before the house went online, we made a change in the plans. Jim called the engineering department and had a call back within two hours—with assurance that the change would not be a problem.

The house was knocked down in early October, the land was cleared, the pilings placed, and the house delivered and set in November. Within the next few days, the house was weather tight. Over the next couple of months, Jim’s crews were there doing what they needed to do, and I was always allowed to check on their work, which I found to be professionally done. Jim and I spoke frequently, and in early April I moved in. Of course there was a punch list, and it was taken care of immediately. After I moved in, many people walking by would admire the house, and I always took the opportunity to show off my house and give Jim many accolades. Jim would bring prospective customers over to the house, and I would give them the tour and tell them that I would NOT hesitate for one second to recommend Jim Miller as their contractor.

Jim and I have been in contact over the years and when he asked me to write this little testimonial, I agreed immediately. I could on for a few more pages, but I won’t, and I will finish this by saying ‘It was a very pleasant experience working with Jim Miller."
